At the "First Cup" dominates the little wind, but an excellent "Fetch the dragon"

Monaco - From February 4 to 6 the Monaco Yacht Club organized the early-season racing classic, the "First Cup", now in its 27th edition, five classes participating in Surprise, Esse850, J24, Melges 20 and Dragons.

Among the Dragons, 25 boats from 10 nations from the way that make the class more international spring temperatures with sunshine and little wind .. so little, indeed no wind, in fact, on three days' racing was possible to play one test for both classes.
Winner of the one race, and then the event is to be English Brudburny Ivan on "Blue Haze", the 1958 wooden boat, second place for the Irish on Ean Pugh "Eve" and third place for the Russian Anatoly Loginov on "Annapurna".

Two Italian boats in races, "Fetch the dragon" owner Viareggio Ezio Gianni Murzi, carrying Francesco Gabbi, Luca Pepi and Sandra Seghieri, authors of a very good race, especially in the conclusion that the "offers" an exciting fifth place, the other Italian yacht "Cloud" owner Joseph Duke, finished in thirteenth position.

"There's a bit of regret, says Francesco Gabbi , since coming here in three days and have only a single race is certainly not much.
We are clearly happy with our excellent fifth place a very difficult race with boundary conditions for little or no wind, the field was "broken", and it was really hard to navigate at best. Upwind, we must still improve, especially in the run, while the stern we have found the right feeling that make us very competitive.

We started well and half of the first beat we were among the first, but then the arrival of the windward mark we were not put to much because even a nice hole in the air that has accompanied us for most of the turning point, very well, however, the first run that took us behind the front runners, the discrete second beat, with improvements on run in the final stage and finally the second and last the stern, where we did well to keep up pressure and just as they did not jibe all, then a good dose of luck and good management has allowed us to pull the boats to windward close to us and upon arrival in the fifth position.

We have received some compliments all, that surely there are nice, although we know that we work so hard and this excellent fifth place at the "First Cup" does not change the goals we have set earlier in the season.

At the end of February, "Fetch" will be in water at Cannes for the Grade 1 race, with a bit of turnover in the crew. "
